The bad news is that modern life makes war against your vitality—with sedentary lifestyles, fake food, fake stress, chemicals everywhere, plastics everywhere, and more. This shouldn’t be news to anyone. Just take a look around and see the deterioration of the human form in real time. If we do not take active measures to protect ourselves, we will become shadows of what we should have been. Nor is this just a superficial or skin-deep problem—as the feel-good maxims like “It’s what’s on the inside” imply. What’s on the outside is never fully divorced from what’s on the inside, and the deterioration of the body has political, spiritual, and social consequences.
The good news is that we can find voices in the wilderness to help us make sense of what’s what. The internet is a double-edge sword in just about every way, and of course there are a lot of phonies and lame wannabe gurus out there—but the good ones can be found if you know where to look.
I’ve assembled a list of a few of favorites—from esoteric health hacks to training tips to instruction on martial prowess. Following these people has changed things for me.
