Enjoyed the piece. Yes, Geoffroi de Charny had a very practical reason for being a meticulous practitioner of his deeply-held faith: constant readiness for an afterlife with God, given the extremely violent nature of his profession.
For some reason, the thumbnail is showing my book rather than Charny's, but when you open it Charny's is the main picture—as it was meant to be!
